These terms explain what it means to fundraise for Scope and are designed to support inclusive, accessible, and positive participation.
Registering and Fundraising
- Some fundraising activities require registration with Scope. Where registration is required, participants must complete the relevant form before taking part.
- Participants agree to raise funds in support of Scope. Scope may provide fundraising guidance, resources, and information about recognised fundraising platforms.
- There is no minimum fundraising target unless clearly stated for a specific activity.
Registration Fees (where applicable)
- Some activities may involve a registration fee. Where charged, fees are non-refundable and non‑transferable.
- Registration fees help cover the cost of administering and supporting fundraising activities.
Who Can Take Part
- Fundraising activities are open to people with a wide range of abilities, backgrounds, and experiences.
- Any fundraiser who is under 18; a parent or legal guardian must provide written consent and accept responsibility for the participant.
Taking Part in a Way That Works for You
- Scope welcomes participants to take part in ways that reflect their individual circumstances, abilities, and access needs.
- Participants are encouraged to adapt activities where needed, including changing the pace, distance, duration, format, or timing of how they take part.
- There is no requirement to complete activities in a single session or in a specific way unless this is clearly stated.
- Participants are encouraged to get in touch with Scope if they would like support, advice, or adjustments to help them participate.
Health, Wellbeing, and Personal Choice
- Some fundraising activities may involve physical effort, but there is no requirement to be “fit” or to meet a specific physical standard.
- Participants are responsible for deciding how and whether to take part in ways that feel right for them.
- Participants may choose to seek medical or professional advice if this would help them make informed decisions about taking part.
- Participants should pause, stop, or change how they take part at any point if they feel unwell, unsafe, or uncomfortable.
Safety
- Participants take part at their own discretion and are responsible for their own safety during fundraising activities.
- Where activities involve organised events or shared public spaces, participants should follow any reasonable safety instructions provided.
- Scope cannot accept responsibility for risks or hazards outside of its direct control, particularly in public or third-party spaces
Disability and Access
- Scope recognises that disabled people may face barriers when taking part in fundraising activities and is committed to promoting inclusive fundraising.
- Participants are not required to disclose disabilities, medical conditions, or access needs.
- Any information shared about access needs will only be used to support participation and will be handled sensitively and in line with data protection law.
- Using mobility aids, assistive technology, support from others, or alternative formats is welcomed where it supports inclusion.
Responsibility and Liability
- Participants take part in fundraising activities at their own discretion and remain responsible for how they choose to participate.
- Scope will not be liable for injury, loss, or damage resulting from participation, except where liability cannot be legally excluded or where loss is caused by Scope’s negligence.
- Friends, family members, and supporters attending fundraising activities do so at their own discretion and risk.
- Participants are responsible for arranging any insurance they feel is appropriate for their participation.
Withdrawal, Transfers, and Behaviour
- Participants may withdraw from fundraising activities at any time. Registration fees, where applicable, are non‑refundable.
- Participation places are personal and must not be sold, transferred, or given to another person.
- Scope reserves the right to ask a participant to stop taking part if their behaviour presents a serious risk to themselves, others, or Scope’s reputation.
Changes or Cancellation
- Fundraising activities may be changed or cancelled due to circumstances beyond Scope’s reasonable control.
- Scope cannot be responsible for costs incurred due to cancellation, such as travel or accommodation.
- Funds raised will continue to be used to support Scope’s charitable work unless a refund is legally required.
Data Protection
- Personal data will be processed by Scope in line with data protection legislation.
- Information may be used to:
- administer fundraising activities
- provide support and updates
- communicate about Scope’s work (in line with preferences)
Where necessary for safety reasons, information may be shared with medical or first aid providers.
Fundraising Standards
- Participants agree to fundraise responsibly, legally, and respectfully.
- Fundraising must not cause harm, offence, or reputational damage to Scope.
- Scope reserves the right to withdraw support for fundraising activities that do not meet these standards.
Payment of Funds Raised
- Funds raised should be paid to Scope within a reasonable period following the fundraising activity (normally within six weeks).
- All funds raised are held for the benefit of Scope.
Acceptance of These Terms
By registering or fundraising for Scope, participants confirm they have read and agree to these terms and conditions.
General
- If any part of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining sections will continue to apply.
- Scope reserves the right to update these terms and conditions, giving reasonable notice where possible.
